When it comes to a flawless finish, how do you create the skin you want?
Most women seem to want what we don't have so whether you like your skin dewy, demi-matte or matte you need to know two things - formula and your skin.
(Psst! Don't forget to catch up on last weeks post - Step 1 - Choose Your Coverage)
Step 2 - Choose your finish
Some formulas will only come in one finish or coverage while some will have many options. Below you will find everything you need to know about the flexibility of each formula depending on your skin type, desired coverage and finish - and some of my personal favourites!
Powder
Generally demi-matte to matte finish and great if you have an even and normal type skin. If your skin is oily, powder can oxidise and change colour as it wears during the day. Whereas if your skin is dry, powder can catch on uneven patches so make sure to exfoliate, moisturise well and opt for a hydrating primer.
Powders are great for quick fixes and come in a variety of coverages.
Cream
This is usually the fullest coverage option but sheers down beautifully too with primer or moisturiser. They are generally dewy to demi-matte and are great for all skin types. These can also be manipulated by setting with loose or pressed powder to achieve your desired finish.
Cream Souffle
Soaks in to look like natural skin. They have a sheer to medium coverage and are generally dewy to demi-matte in finish. They are great for most skin types but if you are especially oily you may need to set with powder or use a mattifying primer.
Liquid
Can be found in a wide variety of coverages or finishes. Generally great for all skin types and can also be set with loose or pressed powder depending the finish the formula already has. I do always recommend setting with some loose powder to increase the wear time of liquid foundation. However, if your skin is dry and you want a dewy finish try skipping this step.
Airbrush
Airbrush foundation is typically demi-matte, lasts up to 13 hours and is waterproof. Not ideal for daily wear, but for a special occasion it is a great treat. Ideal for weddings and those with acne, scarring or pigmentation that need a fuller coverage. It can be worn quite sheer but can also layer to full coverage. Can easily be mattified with powder.
A Word on Primer...
Depending on your skin type, the right primer can dramatically change the finish of your foundation. There are brightening, hydrating, smoothing and mattifying options on the market. My absolute favourites are the primer range from Make Up For Ever. They have every option for every skin type and adjusted for every skin tone - talk about choices!
PRO TIP: You can also add adjusters into or under your foundation that add a dewy or more matte texture.
I hope this helps you achieve your very own flawless finish, please feel free to drop me a comment below if you have any questions, want to know more, or share your go to products or combinations.
